This is a plant I collected on the island of Paros in Greece. I found it growing out of the gravel all along the roadsides in Alyki, all dried up. What attracted me were the shadows cast by the plant—they looked like astral constellations. Smynrium olusatrum was used as a vegetable hundreds of years ago, its flavor is purported to be celery-like and has since fallen out of culinary flavor.
